Early life:
Udit Narayan Jha is, without a doubt, the king of male playback singers. He was born on 1 December 1960 in a village called Bharadah in the Saptari district in the Terai plain of Nepal, to father who was a farmer,Hare Krishna Jha and mother Bhuwaneshwari Devi. He studied at P.B. School, Rajbiraj, where he passed his S.L.C. Later for his further study he joined his intermediate from Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, especially known as RR campus Kathmandu.
Career:
He has sung more than 15,000 songs in more than 30 different languages. He began his career by singing in Nepali, Maithili and Bhojpuri songs for Radio Nepal in the early 1970s. His first film playback singing was for Nepali film Sindur. In 1978, he moved to Mumbai on a music scholarship. In Mumbai, he trained in Indian classical music for six years at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Later, in the year 1980, he got his break to sing in a Hindi film when music director Rajesh Roshan offered him to sing in the movie Unees Bees. But the actual success story of his career began in 1988 with the superhit Bollywood movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak,receiving him a Filmfare Award. After the success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, he became one of the leading playback singers in the Indian film industry,
Udit Narayan is a resident of Mumbai. He has married to Ranjana Narayan Jha and Deepa Narayan Jha. His second wife, Deepa Narayan, whom he married in 1985, is a singer. They have a son name Aditya Narayan Jha too is a former child actor, singer and television presenter.
Udit Narayan became a well-known celebrity in Nepal and sang in most popular Nepali movies. He even acted in some Nepali movies like Kusume Rumal and Pirati but didn’t get that much success. He has also sung several songs in Kannada, Oriya, Tamil and Malayalam, where he has become popular . In 2004, he released his first private Nepali album “Upahaar”, in which he also sang duet songs with his wife Deepa Jha. It became a superhit .
Udit Narayan was gaining much popularity, he got overshadowed by Kumar Sanu, who another famous Indian playback singer. He has won three National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. He has sung many duets with Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal and so on.
The private albums of Udit Narayan Jha are Bhajan Sangam, Bhajan Vatika, I Love You, Dil Deewana, Yeh Dosti, Love is Life, Jhumka de Jhumka. He was the judges of Indian Idol 3 with music composer Anu Malik and female playback singer Alisha Chinai on Sony TV.
Udit Narayan has performed in many stage shows in India and abroad and he too recipient of a large number of awards. He also won his third National award for the song “Pardesi Pardesi” from Raja Hindustani.
He is the onscreen voice of the three major superstars of Indian cinema namely Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. He is one of the most acclaimed singers of the present generation ,praised by senior and composers for his original voice quality. Many music directors prefer to work with him. He is also a hit with major directors like Yash Chopra.
